Avid traveler Mila Pantovich describes here unforgettable experience behind the wheels of the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid. Read full details of her experience below.

“To say the least, getting behind the wheel of the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid was an adventure. I’ve driven many of luxurious vehicles that provide a smooth and comfortable ride, but the Flying Spur Hybrid stood out for its impeccable attention to detail and intrinsic sense of history.

During my brief stint as a Bentley chauffeur, I had a variety of first impressions. The first impression was of the appearance, followed by the first impression of seeing the flawless craftsmanship inside, and then the first impression of driving it. But there came a point in Los Angeles traffic when I had the overwhelming impression that I was driving a piece of history. It wasn’t the same sensation as driving a historic automobile; instead, it was the sensation of driving something that was part of a larger whole. All of these associations with Bentley that I hadn’t realized I had came gushing in, utterly surprising me.

I made sure to drive between San Diego and Los Angeles multiple times throughout my week with the car to gain a substantial amount of miles behind the wheel. The Flying Spur Hybrid seamlessly shifted from the 2.9-liter twin-turbocharged V6 engine and the 134 horsepower electric motor with its 18kWh battery, from bumper-to-bumper traffic to motorway cruising. The design makes switching between driving modes with a button on the center console quite simple. Furthermore, the car’s Predictive E-Mode analyzes route distance, battery levels, speed limits, number of intersections, and predicted levels of traffic congestion to determine when to make the seamless switch.

The model I had was the Odyssean Edition, which is a celebration of sustainability and contains distinctive styling and materials inspired by the brand’s future vision. Little surprises like painted Pale Brodgar accents on the brightware, lower bodywork, and the 21″ ten twin-spoke wheels greet you even before you get in the car. Odyssean Edition badges can also be found on the ‘D’ pillar and the treadplates when the doors are opened.

Inside, you’ll find beautiful wood veneer paneling and three-dimensional diamond-quilted leather inlays in the doors and rear quarter panels. According to Bentley, they wanted to push the envelope by taking their quilting tradition and taking it to the next level. Their debut of 3D leather quilting is a revolutionary procedure that has never been done before.

In addition to the view on the center touchscreen, there’s a digital instrument display behind the steering wheel that lets you watch the dials in Classic or Expanded mode. The latter provides you a wider view of the navigation map. Passengers in the back are given their own entertainment system, which can be popped out and utilized as a tablet. This allows back passengers to manage everything from the climate to the music.

Bentely’s commitment to its Beyond100 Strategy to become a carbon-neutral firm and the world’s premier sustainability mobility company is reinforced by the Flying Spur Hybrid. Sustainability is in keeping with Bentley’s vision of the future and the necessity of matching their principles with the demands of their customers, since it is the brand’s most ecologically friendly automobile to date.

When it comes to luxury buyers and how the industry has altered, Bentley America’s CEO, Christophe Georges, says, “Values become more and more important.” “[Consumers] want to be linked with the ideals that luxury companies express.” It’s all about the feelings we elicit and the desire they elicit.”

Bentley has officially established a family of hybrids for the first time with the addition of the Flying Spur Hybrid to their portfolio (the other being the Bentayga Hybrid), proving that hybridization does not have to compromise luxury or performance. “Our interior execution, our degree of craftsmanship… [it] will always be there.” We may always work with new materials, but the quality of craftsmanship and the method we do things is the industry standard,” Georges explains. “This is unmistakably part of our DNA, and it comes from our past.” This design language has been around for a long time. There are some key qualities… that are unique to the Bentley DNA and are never jeopardized. Even when discussing electric vehicles.

“The design gives the product its initial impression,” Georges remarks. “And then there’s the interior’s class and beauty, which truly shines out and conveys the sense that this was done with a lot of thought and care.” You can feel and see the quality when you touch it. Then there’s the driving experience, which includes the car’s handling and the emotions it evokes. The electricity and distribution. It has the ability to drive like a sports car while also providing a luxurious experience. And this is a one-of-a-kind combination on the market. “The ideal blend of luxury and performance.”

The Flying Spur Hybrid was designed, manufactured, and produced in Bentley’s carbon-neutral plant in Crewe, UK. It is currently unavailable in the EU27, UK, Switzerland, Israel, Ukraine, Norway, Turkey, and Vietnam. If you’re looking for a Flying Spur Hybrid, the price is largely irrelevant, but it starts at roughly $210,000 if you’re interested.
